Apple’s new ‘MacBook’ is coming: Here’s every rumored feature

Apple is rumored to have a brand new ‘MacBook’ launching soon—a Mac laptop with no Air or Pro suffix. Here’s everything we know right now.

12.9-inch LCD display

The new MacBook is expected to have a display that’s similar in size to the 13-inch MacBook Air, but a little bit smaller.

Whereas the MacBook Air has a 13.6-inch display, the new MacBook is rumored to be about 12.9 inches.

Expect the same basic LCD display quality seen in the MacBook Air, in a slightly smaller footprint and likely with no notch.

iPhone-class A18 Pro chip

As the new entry model in Apple’s Mac laptop line, the ‘MacBook’ will have a less powerful chip designed mainly for basic computing needs.

Rumors say the MacBook is getting an iPhone and iPad-class A18 Pro chip.

Every other Mac uses M-class chips, but that’s not to say this model will be an underperformer.

The A18 Pro should still prove plenty powerful for everyday computing tasks like web browsing, email, messaging, and light gaming, image editing, and other creative tasks.

Bold and fun color options

Like it does with the iMac, Apple is expected to offer the new MacBook in a variety of bold color options.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reported that blue, pink, yellow, and silver are planned.

Whatever the final options end up being, I’m excited to see Apple bring fun colors to the Mac laptop lineup.

Pricing and release timing

One of the best features of the MacBook is expected to be its pricing.

Prices for unreleased products are notoriously hard to predict. But general consensus pins the MacBook’s cost at around $699. That would be well below the $999 starting price of the MacBook Air.

Mark Gurman reported at Bloomberg this weekend that the new MacBook will launch “in the first half of the year.” According to analyst Jeff Pu though, it could drop any time in the next month or so.
